Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information is collected when you visit Rat Terrier Advice (ratterrieradvice.com), who collects it, and the choices you have. We have tried to describe what the site actually does, in plain language.
The short version
- You do not need an account to use this site, and we do not ask for your name or email address.
- There is no comment system and no newsletter signup.
- We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used.
- The interactive tools save what you enter in your own browser, not on our servers.
- If you follow a link to Amazon, Amazon may set its own cookies.
Information collected when you visit
Server logs
Like almost every website, our hosting provider’s servers automatically record technical information about requests, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the date and time. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, connected through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to measure things like which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as device and browser details and approximate location. We see this as aggregated statistics. Google’s handling of this data is described in Google’s privacy policy, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Fonts
The site’s typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser requests the font files from Google’s servers, which means Google receives your IP address in the course of delivering them.
Interactive tools
Tools such as the Grooming Tracker, Health Reminder Tracker, Resource Planner and quizzes store what you enter in your browser’s local storage on your own device. That information is not sent to us. You can remove it with the clear button in each tool or by clearing site data in your browser. More detail is on our data privacy for tools page.
Affiliate links
Some links go to Amazon.com and carry our affiliate tag. When you follow one, Amazon may set cookies to record that you arrived from this site, so that a qualifying purchase can be attributed. We do not receive your name, address or payment details from Amazon. Amazon’s use of data is covered by the Amazon privacy notice. See our affiliate disclosure.
If you email us, we will have your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply and to deal with your request.
Cookies
The cookies used on this site are described in our cookie policy.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Information is processed by the service providers described above (our web host, Google and, if you follow an affiliate link, Amazon) under their own terms.
Your choices and rights
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- You can opt out of Google Analytics using the add-on linked above.
- Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to ask what personal data is held about you, and to ask for it to be corrected or deleted. To make a request, please contact us.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Links to other sites
We link to other websites, including our sources and Amazon. Their privacy practices are their own.
Changes
If the way the site handles information changes, for example if a newsletter is added, we will update this page and its date.
